“That whole self-deprecating thing he does, making fun of himself, his material and others,” said Kindler, who is also known for his self-deprecating humour.Īs much as he gives it to others, Kindler often takes swipes at himself, such as at this year’s Just For Laughs festival in Montreal in July when, during his State of the Industry address, he all but begged a promoter in the audience to hire him, trying to negotiate a price that quickly fell. Further, Kindler made more than 40 appearances on Late Night with David Letterman and the Late Show with David Letterman.īorn in New York City, the 56-year-old Kindler said his biggest influences in comedy were Woody Allen movies (“not his stand-up”), Richard Pryor and, especially, David Letterman. He was a recurring character on the television sitcom, Everybody Loves Raymond, and is currently the voice of Mort on Bob’s Burgers. Kindler should be a familiar face or name to most.

Those he’s targeted aren’t unknowns: Whoopi Goldberg (he offered $1 million for anyone producing a video of Goldberg being humorous), the late Robin Williams, Adam Sandler, Craig Ferguson (“He’s going to go out like he came in: barely trying” are a few of his targets over the years. Kindler has delivered the Montreal address for almost 20 years and each time he’s called out other comics for being too predictable, not funny or playing it too safe. He’ll be bringing his caustic wit to London Sunday for a show at The Roxbury Pub & Grill after a four-night appearance at the Just For Laughs 42 in Toronto.
